Army celebrates 68th Infantry Day at Jharkhand War Memorial

Held in the morning,Lt Gen Lalit Kumar Pandey, AVSM, SM, General Officer Commanding Brahmastra Corps accompanied by all Infantry officers of Ranchi Station, laid a wreath to commemorate and honour Infantry Martyrs who, with indomitable courage and personal sacrifice stood as role models for future generations.
Later,the Infantry Day was celebrated to commemorate the gallant sacrifice of soldiers of 1st Battalion of the Sikh Regiment at old airfield, in Srinagar.
In fact,in September/October ‘47’, Pakistani tribesmen supported by Pak Army Officers, had marched towards Srinagar after burning down Baramulla Town. On 27 October 1947, 1st Battalion of the Sikh Regiment air landed at old airfield and with their indomitable courage and self sacrifice, turned the tide and saved the Valley for India.
