chath_endThe four-day long Chhath Puja ended today in the morning with the worship of the rising sun.

Thousands of people in Jharkhand, mostly women, fasted, sang folk songs and offered prayers to the rising sun to celebrate the festival of Chhath.

The Chhath Puja began on Sunday when devotees took a dip in rivers, a tradition known as ‘nahai khai’. This was followed by the ritual of ‘kharna’ on Monday when sweet dishes were prepared before fasting began.

On Tuesday busy roads, narrow lanes, river banks, ponds and other water bodies were cleaned and made ready for the performance of the puja. Chhath is associated with faith, purity and devotion to the Sun.
