‘Ensure Sukanya Smriddhi Yojna benefits all girl child in Jharkhand’

The Jharkhand government has decided to take the Sukanya Smridhi Yojna forward in the state.”The aim is to take this scheme to the grassroots so that all girl child benefit from it”,said Principal Secretary,Finance,Amit Khare in a meeting today.

As it is,Sukanya Samriddhi Yojna(literally Girl Child Prosperity Account),sponsored by the Government of India,backs scheme targeted at the parents of girl children. The scheme encourages parents to build a fund for the future education and marriage expenses for their female child.

The scheme was launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on January 22,2015 as a part of the ‘Beti Bachao,Beti Padhao’ campaign. The scheme currently provides an interest rate of 9.2% and tax benefits. The account can be opened at any India Post office or a branch of some authorised commercial banks.

While addressing a high level meeting inside the Nepal House in Ranchi,Khare told the representatives of different Departments of School Education, Literacy,Women,Child Development,Health and Family Welfare,Panchayat institutions and Banks that they must ensure that not any girl child in the age group of 0-10 remains without getting benefits from the scheme.
