The Union Environment Ministry has given its approval to Tata Steel for more than doubling the capacity of its Jamshedpur-based cold rolling mill.

The plant’s capacity will now go up to 0.8 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) from the existing 0.3 MTPA.

Earlier, an Expert Appraisal Committee of the Environment Ministry had recommended environment clearance to Tata Steel’s proposal to expand its capacity at Cold Rolling Mill complex located in Jamshedpur.

“Based on the recommendation of the expert committee, the Environment Ministry has decided to grant the environment clearance,” a senior Environment Ministry official has said.
