Jharkhand government directed to pay Rs.1 lakh to rape victim

rape-victim-555259301The Jharkhand High Court has directed the State to pay financial assistance of Rs.1 lakh to the family of a nine-year-old rape victim.

The court took suo motu cognizance of a local media report that said the father of the victim carried her on foot for treatment.

According to the report, the father, a resident of Hatiapata village of West Singhbhum district, which is round 170 km from Ranchi, had to foot the distance of 4 km carrying his daughter to the hospital for treatment.

The father of the rape victim is a daily wage labourer and does not own even a bicycle.
