The Jharkhand High Court has directed the state to ensure that an officer not below the rank of deputy superintendent of police (DSP) probe the rape of a nine-year-old girl, who is being treated at a hospital in Ranchi.
The court had earlier issued instructions to the government to ensure that the poor family from Ghatshila was extended all possible medical and financial help.
A Division Bench of Chief Justice Virender Singh and Justice P. P. Bhatt, while hearing a PIL, described the incident as “sorrowful” and heard submissions from the advocate-general, who provided details of the initiatives taken by the government in this matter.
