Management Development Programme on CSR launched in Jharkhand

DSC_7570 (1)Three bodies-Jharkhand government’s Department of Industries, Mines & Geology, Indian Institute of Management, Ranchi (IIM – R) & UNICEF,Jharkhand-today launched the first ever 3 -day long Management Development Programme (MDP) on CSR for working professionals in the state.

Ravi Kumar, Director, Department of Industries, Mines & Geology said, “This joint endeavour with UNICEF & IIM R will help in the overall development of the Jharkhand. With the new Companies Act 2013, it has now become mandatory for the companies to invest in CSR activities. Companies must channelize their CSR activities for facilitating comprehensive development of the state. There is a need to develop a sustainable model for CSR initiatives through partnerships and engagements which will help reduce inequities. The Government, and all partners – civil society, businesses and academic institutions – have an important role to play in this effort.”

Professor Anindya Sen, Director, IIM R said, “Businesses have traditionally focused on profit maximization for its stakeholders. However today, corporate social responsibility talks about stakeholders outside the organization. The discussion on corporate social responsibility has shifted from the ‘why’ to ‘how’. We are pleased to be a part of this joint endeavour with the Department of Industries and UNICEF. Faculty members from IIM Kolkata have come in specially to talk about various aspects of CSR.”

UNICEF India Chief of Communications, Caroline Den Dulk said, “UNICEF believes that partnerships and collaborative relationships are critical to deliver results for children and to realize their rights. UNICEF works with a broad range of partners, including academic institutions, all over the world, in order to achieve such outcomes. This MDP is a testimony to such a collaboration.”

She added, “We are driven by the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) for children focussing on their health, nutrition, sanitation and protection from violence. Last year the world made a commitment to make a just and equitable world for children. We can’t do it alone. Partnerships between the Government, knowledge institutions and businesses are very important for the realization these goals for children. This initiate will make a real difference in the lives of children in the state.”

Around 18 participants from DVC ltd, Hindalco Industries Ltd, TATA Steel, UCIL, JSPL, NTPC, BCCL, CCL, CMPDI, Rai University, Institute of Management Studies, Ranchi University & the Jharkhand CSR Council (JCSRC) are undergoing the 3 day programme. The inaugural was attended by Dr. Madhulika Jonathan, Chief of UNICEF Jharkhand, Moira Dawa, Communication Officer of UNICEF, Professor Swarup Dutta, Professor Rohit Kumar and other faculty from IIM Kolkata among others.
