He began his professional career as a worker of the Tata Steel.Now,sixty year old Raghuwar Das was selected by the BJP as leader of the newly elected legislatures to become Jharkhand’s first non tribal Chief Minister.

Das,who studied in Jamshedpur at Bhalubasa Harijan High School and Cooperative College to do his Matric and Graduation respectively,had joined the Tata Steel as its worker.

Records show that he always fought on behalf of workers against the Tata Steel.At the same time,he worked as a labourer at Tata Steel’s hospital in Jamshedpur.

Earlier,he had participated in the Jay Prakash Narain led movement in 1975-77,and joined BJP to become its Sitaram Mandal(Block) President in 1980.

Belonging to a Backword caste,Das,who became BJP’s MLA from Jamshedpur in 1995,had held a number of posts-Minister and Deputy Chief Minister-during the past 14 years since Jharkhand was born in 2000.He had won the Jamshedpur Assembly seat for fifth consequitve term this time.

Today,in a meeting held in Ranchi,his name was proposed for the post of the BJP’s legislature party leader and CM by Sarayu Roy and CP Singh.Both Roy and Singh were front runners for the same post…
