Two pro people doctors Shayama Prasad Mukherjee and RS Das were felicitated by members of the Citizens Council-Morning Walkers & Talkers inside Jharkhand Civil Service Officers Institute, Ranchi.
Both of them were collectively offered mementoes, each made of silver by Padamshree Ashok Bhagat, Pollution Control Board Member SK Satapathy, Rajya Sabha MP Harivansh and senior journalist Manoj Prasad.
A team of Citizens Council-Morning Walkers & Talkers had selected them for Roll of Honour on the basis of their performance connected with patients.Both these doctors-Dr Mukherjee and his student Dr Das were residents of Ranchi where they were widely known as pro-people and honourable doctors.
At a time, when many doctors charged fees ranging between Rs 500 to Rs 1500 per patient, Dr Mukherjee treated a patient by charging Rs 5 per patient.In fact, if the poor patient lacked this small amount, he treated him/ her free of cost and gifted medicines as well.He has been serving the patients in a mission mode since past more than 50 years.
Asked what inspired him to do so and pass a message he has any, Dr Mukherjee, who was awarded by Reliance Chief Mukesh Ambani and Sony TV programme of Amitabh Bachchan, replied saying he derives a sense of happiness and joy by treating “poor patient.”He also advised his colleagues to treat at least one poor patient without charging any fee and experience the feeling.
“Money no matter whether it is ‘hundred’ or ‘thousand or lakh’, cannot buy happiness that comes in the form of blessings of the patient and family members of the poor background.Feel it to believe me’, Dr Mukerjee observed evoking clapping from among the audience.
Dr Das who has been serving the poor patients in rural areas, especially residing in Maoist infested Garhwa district of Jharkhand, during the past over 30 years, reacted positively and backed Dr Mukherjee’s suggestion.
During the award - felicitation function, PC Sinha, ex Chief Engineer of Bokaro Steel Ltd, delivered 10 - minute speech on ‘ Pollution Control’.He stressed upon the need to conserve the Mother Earth by planting trees and maintaining them.’One way to contain air and sound Pollution is to get rid of four-wheelers and use body and legs to move around as much as a human can’, he advised.
Among eminent persons who took part in the Lokmanya Balgangadhar Tilak Memorial Samgam programme included Harivansh, Bhagat, Dr RP Singh, Ashok Singh, and Kishore Mantri.The programme was coordinated by Manoj Prasad.
