NDTV took note of Google’s India home page today and noted that this search engine giant marked marked the country’s 64th Republic Day with a doodle featuring India’s national animal, the tiger.

“The Google logo appears as stripes on a brightly coloured tiger”,said NDTV’s note.

It adds:”The doodle also features the iconic India Gate and motifs of India’s national flower, the lotus.

On Republic Day last year, the Google doodle depicted three elephants decked in finery, each with two children and a tri-coloured umbrella on its back – a reference to winners of the bravery awards who take part in the Republic Day parade held in New Delhi every year.

India celebrated its 64th Republic Day with ceremonial pomp on Saturday. Prime Minister Manmohan Singh laid a wreath at Amar Jawan Jyoti at India Gate – the site dedicated to the unknown soldier. President Pranab Mukherjee unfurled the tri-colour and presided over the traditional annual R-Day parade in the capital.”
