Janmashthami,a Hindu festival marking the birth of Bhagwan Krishna,is being celebrated in Jharkhand with a great fervour.

The music is being played in all localities of the state.In Ranchi,temples are beautifully decorated and celebrations are taking place on a grand scale on this occasion.

People have kept fast.The fast will continue until midnight because it is believed that Bhagwan Krishna, an Avatar of Vishnu, was born exactly at the stroke of midnight.Tradition has it that God Krishna took birth to kill wicked king of Mathura, Kansa.

In fact,the entire India is celebrating Janmashtami on Thursday with great fervor and enthusiasm.In Jharkhand capital,just like anywhere else, the festival is celebrated with full religious zeal.

Several events including breaking of a matka (earthen pot) are organized to mark the celebrations.
